Think of it as having a friend in Saigon who has the afternoon free and knows which alley the good coffee is in.
Ho Chi Minh City can feel like a lot on the first day. Motorbikes pour through every intersection, the heat sits on you, and the best food is often on a corner with no sign. Locals often still call it Saigon, and getting a feel for the place is much easier with someone who lives there.
That is what Yes! Oppa is for. You spend time with a local friend, we call them a Crew member, who speaks English and knows the city. This post explains how it works, what it costs, and how to book, with nothing hidden.
What you get
You get a few hours with a person from the city, not a script. A Crew member is there to hang out, show you how things work, and help you get around, order food, or find the places that suit you.
There is no fixed list of stops. You and your Crew member decide together, first in the chat and then on the day. If you want to slow down, you slow down. If you see something interesting down a side street, you can go look.
Yes! Oppa started in Seoul, and the idea is the same everywhere. Having someone local on your side makes a new city feel smaller and friendlier.
Who you meet
Your Crew member is someone who lives in Ho Chi Minh City and speaks English. They are a regular local person, the kind of friend you would hope to have in any new city. Someone who can read a menu with you, tell you how a place works, and chat about life here.
You do not need to be outgoing or have a long list of wishes. Some people want to talk the whole time. Others just like having someone nearby who knows the way. Both are fine.
Tell us a little about yourself in the chat. What you enjoy, whether you are traveling solo or with others, and anything you would rather skip. It helps the day go smoothly.
What a day could look like in Ho Chi Minh City
Nothing here is a promise or a set route. These are just some things you might do, depending on what you both feel like.
You might start with coffee. Saigon has a real cafe culture, and some of the nicest spots are tucked into narrow alleys or up the stairs of old apartment blocks. They are easy to walk past if you do not know they are there.
You might wander District 1 and walk through Ben Thanh Market, where it helps to have someone next to you who can explain what you are looking at and how things work.
You might eat street food on plastic stools at the side of the road, which is one of the most Saigon things you can do. Having a local friend there makes it simple to choose dishes and order without guessing.
If you want a calmer pace, you could head over to Thao Dien, or spend some time near the Saigon River as the day cools down.
Getting around usually means Grab, and your Crew member can help you with that. Crossing the street through motorbike traffic is also a skill, and it is a lot less stressful with someone who does it every day.
What it costs
Pricing is simple. It is from $25 per hour, with a 4-hour minimum, so a booking starts from $100.
If you are having a good time and want more, you can extend by the hour. The exact amount is confirmed with you in the chat before you pay, so there are no surprises later.
The fee covers your Crew member's time. Costs on the day, like food, drinks, tickets and transport, are separate. While you are out together, travelers usually cover their Crew member's share. Street food and Grab rides tend to keep this part light, but it is good to know going in.
Booking and payment
Booking happens in a conversation, not a long form. Message us on the site and we agree on three things: the date, a start time, and how many people are coming. Once that is settled, you pay upfront through a PayPal link. A few tips before you pay:
These small checks take a minute and save a lot of back and forth later.
- Read the refund section of the Terms before paying, so you know how changes work.
- Check that the date, start time and number of people in the chat are right.
- Make sure the final amount in the chat is what you expect to pay.
- If something about your trip might change, tell us in the chat as early as you can.
- Keep your PayPal receipt until after your day is done.
An honest note on availability
The Crew in Ho Chi Minh City is just getting started, and it is small for now. That means it is worth messaging early, especially if you already know your dates.
If no one is free on the day you want, we tell you straight away. We will not hold your money while we try to sort something out.
FAQ
- Do I need to know what I want to do before I message?
- No. A rough idea helps, like food, coffee, or just walking around, but the rest can be worked out with your Crew member as you go.
- Can I book for a group?
- Yes. Friends and families are welcome. Just include everyone in the head count when you message, because that number is locked in before payment.
- Is the price per person?
- It depends on your group size, so tell us how many people are coming. Your exact total is shown in the chat before any money changes hands.
- Can we keep going if the day runs longer?
- Yes, you can add hours. Let us know in the chat and we will confirm the amount for the extra time.
- Do I need to speak any Vietnamese?
- Not at all. Everything can happen in English, though picking up a word or two like a simple thank you is always fun.
