District 4 moves like it forgot the tourist map exists.

Why District 4, why now

District 4 is gaining renewed buzz in 2026 as Saigon's compact, riverside eating-and-drinking quarter directly across the canal from District 1. Vinh Khanh Street was officially designated a food street by city authorities, cementing its reputation as a nhậu paradise, while new independent cafes and co-working spots are appearing along Ben Van Don as spillover from the central business district.

1. Tinh Xa Linh Quang

Tinh Xa Linh Quang opens the route early, before the alley fills with motorbikes. It's small, tucked back from the street, and the morning is the only time you'll have the courtyard mostly to yourself. Start here to set the pace for the rest of District 4: unhurried, local, a little off the grid.

Crew's note

The lanterns hang still. No one's rushing the prayer.

What visitors say

This temple is kinda small, located deep in one petit alley. Anyway, it is still a peaceful place to worship.

It’s a mid sized temple and it seems like people use this place as a parking lot too.

2. Xom Chieu Market

Xom Chieu Market closes the route after dark, when the food stalls downstairs are running and the aisles cool down. This is where the neighborhood shops, eats, and settles in for the evening. End here because District 4 makes more sense at night, and the market keeps going long after you're done.

Crew's note

District 4 doesn't rush. The concrete stays cool.

What visitors say

If you live on this area, it’s very convenient to shop some clothing or any personal hygiene. There’s also food court downstairs from desser…

Best market to shop. Prices are extremely reasonable. No need to negotiate over here. Shop keepers are super friendly and not aggressive to…

The walk between

The walk between them cuts through the blocks where Vinh Khanh meets the older residential grid. You'll pass shopfront cafes spilling onto the pavement and the occasional food cart already setting up for the evening shift.

  • Visit the temple in the morning, then kill time at one of the new cafes along Ben Van Don before the market opens in the late afternoon.
  • The market works best after 6 p.m., when the downstairs food court is in full swing and the clothing stalls upstairs are still open.

FAQ

Is parking available near the temple?
The temple grounds double as informal parking for motorbikes during the day. Space is tight, so arrive early if you're riding in.
Do I need to bargain at Xom Chieu Market?
Prices are fixed and clearly marked, so there's no need to negotiate. The vendors are low-pressure and won't follow you around the stalls.
