D4 Half-Day Course in Ho Chi Minh City

District 4 keeps its river quiet. Locals eat late here.

Why D4, why now

District 4 is being called 'the new District 1' by local travel press, with fashion-forward boutiques, co-working spaces, and new cafes emerging alongside its established street-food scene. It's a fresh pick with genuine current buzz, not yet crowded into the usual circuit.

1. TUFA Cafe Quan 4

TUFA opens this route because the course needs a calm anchor before the river gets loud. It's a self-serve matcha spot tucked in a courtyard, the kind of place that stays student-quiet even when it's full. You start here in the afternoon, let the neighborhood settle around you, and hold off on dinner until the sun drops.

Crew's note

The sign says quiet study zone. Nobody checks.

What visitors say

A good place to get a cheap and good matcha latte. Many students come. The interior is simple and cozy. Not crazy beautiful, but much more f…

This strange little cafe is in a courtyard and is a great place to get some work done. It’s self-serve: order what you want and then choose…

2. Elisa Floating Restaurant

Elisa closes the course on the water, where the timing matters more than the menu. The floating restaurant catches the marina just after sundown, when the glass and the current both go dark. This is where the night ends, not where it starts, so the route builds toward sitting still.

Crew's note

The neon says happy birthday. The river does the rest.

Wow we had such a fabulous time dining here. A manager Lucas and all lovely staff just made our evening. We felt like a truly welcomed guest…

The walk between

The stretch between them runs through the blocks where District 4's old street-food stalls sit next to the new co-working facades. You're walking toward the river, and the air changes before the view does.

  • Start TUFA around 3 or 4pm, so you arrive at Elisa as the light turns. The course works backwards from when you want to be on the water.
  • Elisa takes walk-ins, but a table near the rail means showing up right as the sun sets. If you're late, you're inside, and inside isn't the reason you came.

FAQ

What's the price range for the two stops?
TUFA runs under 35,000 VND for drinks and toppings, cheap enough that students camp out for hours. Elisa sits higher, closer to a full dinner bill with multiple dishes, but the portions and the view both deliver.
Can I flip the order and do dinner first?
You'd lose the logic of the route. The course is built so the cafe holds you through the afternoon, and Elisa catches the exact moment the marina lights up.
